About the position

The EL1 Policy Officer is responsible for providing specialist finance management advice on policy issues related to finance law, agency policies and processes in order to support the Chief Financial Officer, stakeholders and partners.

They are also responsible for creating and implementing new policies and will contribute to varied activities which will increase financial literacy and finance law compliance across the department.


Your Key responsibilities will be

  • Lead a team in the provision of specialist policy advice and guidance to business areas in line with finance law and agency policy frameworks
  • Prepare finance policies and reporting artifacts including other related materials required for adherence with finance law and practice
  • Provide advice on emerging and likely material impacts on the financial performance and contribute towards business and operational planning
  • Draft and clear range of financial briefings
  • Input into financial risk activities and projects
  • Administer and update Financial Delegations
  • Supervise, mentor and develop staff, including prioritising and managing team workloads
  • Representing the department at cross agency working groups
  • Assist the Finance Training team with the preparation and delivery of finance training on finance policy, legislation and related matters

Your skills, experience and qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in administering finance law, including a strong understanding of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 201
  • Selfmotivated, problem solver and can exercise good judgement in order to achieve strategic and holistic policy outcomes
  • Ability to interpret legislation, policy and provide advice, drawing on their experience in complex operating environments
- high-level verbal and written communication skills and be able to draft, edit and implement financial policy and supplementary processes, ensuring currency with all aspects of finance law

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
