POSITION OVERVIEW The Mental Health and Wellbeing Services Division (MH&WS) currently delivers a suite of group programs to support veterans and their family's mental and social health and their transition to civilian life. These groups are delivered through a mixed approach of direct delivery by Open Arms and in partnership or via contracts with other health and ex-service organisations managed by Open Arms or the Mental and Social Health Programs Branch.

Group programs are intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for veterans and their families where they can learn about issues that impact on mental health and wellbeing, connect with others with similar experiences and/or develop self-management skills to enhance wellbeing.

Open Arms offers a range of group programs to the veteran community.

These broadly fit into two categories:
therapeutic treatment programs, and mental health literacy training programs

For further information see:

  • Treatment programs and workshops | Open Arms
  • Suicide intervention and mental health literacy workshops | Open Arms

Group treatment programs allow Open Arms clients to work on specific clinical and/or psychosocial issues in a group setting, often in conjunction with counselling.

Mental health literacy training programs are delivered to members of the veteran community who may be in a position to help others.

Current programs include safeTALK (suicide prevention), ASIST (suicide intervention) and Mental Health First Aid.
