Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

In Australia, we operate five Steelmaking Coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in Steelmaking Coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North-West Queensland and Western Australia.


Job Description:


  • The Associate Program is a structured fouryear program combining fulltime work experience with parttime study through Central Queensland University. Your study will be financed, and you'll receive site expert support and mentorship to ensure your successful completion of the program.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in scheduling, conducting, auditing, and reporting on physical condition inspections, investigations, and emergency drills.
  • Monitor safety performance statistics and determine emerging trends.
  • Support the development, coordination, communication and maintenance of safety improvement initiates and corrective actions.
  • Build site relationships, facilitate safety conversations, and assist in coaching safety systems.
The completion of the program further enhances your flexibility, support, and job security as you will:

  • Gain a nationally recognized, Associate certification,
  • Secure a permanent Safety position with the Company, or
  • Continue your studies within Safety or another functional area to secure a position within the Company.

Qualifications:


  • Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:
  • High school English (C grade or higher),
    AND:
  • A secondary qualification (Year 12 or equivalent),
    OR:
  • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification,
    OR:
We are looking for people to join us in the Associate role who meet the following criteria:

  • Interested in working in the mining industry in a hands-on technical role.
  • Currently located in or willing to relocate to one of our Central Queensland mining communities.
  • Hold a current Australian driver's licence (Provisional Licence at a minimum).
  • Committed to learning and abiding by Mine Health and Safety legislation.
  • Sound interpersonal and intrapersonal skills to converse with various personnel.
  • Focused on continually improving the safety and wellbeing of others.
