About us

The Integrity, Legal and Law Reform (ILLR) group provides policy advice and support on criminal law, civil law, and court and tribunal matters for which the Attorney-General is responsible.

The Justice Economics and System Reform (JESR) branch sits within ILLR and leads strategic justice system policy and reform relating to courts and key entities across the justice sector.

JESR aims to improve the interconnection and operation of the justice system to inform whole-of-justice strategic decision making through policy, process and budget reforms.

About the role
The Policy Officer position will sit in JESR, which comprises two teams:

  • The Strategic Improvement team
  • leads budget and performance improvements (with a focus on the Victorian courts and tribunals), which includes monitoring the performance of, and economic and financial condition of the justice system, drawing on a variety of data, reports, and other resources.
  • The Justice Strategy team identifies and delivers systemlevel reforms, which includes active stewardship of the justice system to improve outcomes, performance and access to justice for all users.
About you

We are looking for staff who are motivated to make an impact in delivering the government's reform agenda and influencing how a complex service delivery system works at all levels.


  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to assist with the preparation of policy proposals, project briefs, reports and recommendations on complex issues.
  • Experience in contributing to either the development or delivery of strategic policy reform and complex projects.
  • Experience in building and leveraging stakeholder relationships to achieve project outcomes, and in effectively managing and addressing stakeholder issues.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal.

This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).


Acceptable evidence includes:


  • COVID19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
