At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.


The SEC is a state-owned company that will help shape a more reliable and affordable renewable energy future for all Victorians.


Your role


As the
Head of Product at the SEC, you will build and provide leadership for a product team to develop, test prototypes, and run pilot programs for household electrification to consumers.

This involves providing commercial solutions to support households to convert to electric appliances for heating and cooking to support them to reduce their energy bills and reduce emissions.


In this role you will have the opportunity to establish and build a high performing team from ground up, and to ensure that product roadmap is successful developed, launched and scaled.

This role can be based in either our
Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in
Morwell. This role is the equivalent of a VPS SES 1.


What you will do:


  • Develop and execute a strategic product roadmap based on customer research, feedback, and emerging technology within the energy industry.
  • Support the development a business case to scale the business and lead the development of actionable endtoend market strategies and plans to deliver selected products to customers at scale.
  • Build and provide strategic leadership for an agile, cross functional team encompassing design, digital (UI/UX), engineering, sales and channel management, operations, and technology development capabilities.
  • Manage and direct the development, testing and iteration of prototypes for consumer energy solutions that meet customer needs and preferences and align with Victorian Government and SEC strategic priorities.
  • Lead comprehensive customer research and testing by commissioning market research to understand consumer sentiment towards prototypes and running pilots with customers.

You are a strategic leader with an entrepreneurial mindset.

You are a collaborative and innovative leader with a proven track record of incubating, piloting, and scaling new businesses in the energy sector, and leading high performing agile, interdisciplinary teams.

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

  • Experience leading customer centric agile consumer product development, preferably in energy (heating/cooling, hot water, energy efficiency, solar PV) or related household products.
  • A relevant tertiary degree/qualification in marketing, business, commerce, law engineering or an equivalent field would be well regarded.
  • Experience with one or more of consumer market research, consumer sales for products involving in home installations, digital sales and service, logistics and/or operations.
  • Proven track record in leading the engagement of a high performing, capable and customer focussed workforce and culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving a culture of quality by design where quality practices are embedded in the service and solution delivery process.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with peers and working together to translate vision and strategy into actionable goals and deliverable outcomes.
  • An appreciation of Victorian Government policy targets, initiatives and goals.
