- Lead the development, implementation and review of the Hospital's OHS&E plan and wellbeing initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate OHS consultation processes across the Hospital including maintaining designated work groups,
- Provide secretariat support to the Health Safety and Environment and Laser and Radiation Safety and Health
- Coordinate the election and training of Health and Safety Representatives
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives to ensure staff, contractors, students and others are aware of their respective OHS responsibilities; undertake audits to proactively assess effectiveness of programs and measure compliance with these responsibilities.
- Develop and implement a systematic and strategic approach to risk assessment, identification, investigation, and control procedures.
- Support, coach and advise managers to increase their capacity to manage OHS & E within their area of responsibility
- Provide frameworks, policies and advice for the safe orientation of staff, volunteers, students and contractors and Eye and Ear tenants.
- In consultation with relevant managers and HSRs, undertake hazard and incident investigations; facilitate development and implementation of risk management responses and monitor their effectiveness.
- Maintain the manual handling management system.
- Develop and report on relevant OHS and wellbeing performance indicators.
- Regularly review, develop and implement OHS policy and procedure consistent with legislation and associated regulations and codes of practice.
- Provide OHS advice and support to Eye and Ear redevelopment user groups
- Collaborate with clinical areas to identify risks and ensure laser safety procedures are developed and monitored to maintain safety
- Other duties as outlined in Laser Safety Procedure

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a world class specialist hospital in eye and ear care providing services across Victoria. As Australia's only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for over 160 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 90 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. The hospital recently completed a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

About the Role
Health and Safety Specialist LSL leave backfill from 08 July 2024 to 17 Oct 2024. Part Time up to 30.4 hours per week.
This role is designed to manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of an OHS framework including initiatives that support a safe and healthy environment for employees, patients and visitors in line with relevant legislation, standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities / Performance Outcomes -
All appointments are subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check, a working with children check (if applicable) and evidence of vaccination status.
All staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (3 doses) and for clinical staff, patient facing staff and staff working in clinical areas, it is a mandatory requirement to provide evidence of a current influenza vaccination.
