  • Anglo American Steelmaking Coal**Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blastfurnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description:


  • Steelmaking Coal Exploration operates across three defined complexes, Northern Bowen Basin (Moranbah), Central Bowen Basin (Middlemount) and Southern Bowen Basin (Moura). Reporting to the Safety Specialist, the Safety Officer will provide safety guidance and support to personnel across our Exploration Hubs.

This is a full-time permanent role based at one of our complexes across the Bowen Basin.

  • Provide advice and guidance to all personnel in all aspects of safety.
  • Embed critical controls into daily work practices across the teams.
  • Prepare incident reports and toolbox meetings.
  • Generate safety reports and manage analysis of KPIs.
  • Engage in safety checks, intervention, and coaching.
  • Facilitate safety training across the site.
  • Review and assess impact of critical risks and monitor effectiveness of critical controls relevant to work area.
  • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health is paramount.
  • Conduct investigations of incidents.
  • Manage compliance of all personnel on site.
**Qualifications

  • To be successful in this role, the following will be highly regarded**:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Safety (or a related discipline) desirable.
  • Previous Safety experience within mining operations (preferably Coal) or heavy industry desirable.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, professional and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying risks and implementing safe working practices.
