  • NSW Primary Industries (NSW DPI)_ within Department of Regional NSW supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the _sustainable use of natural resources._
  • DPI Fisheries_, a Branch of NSW DPI, is responsible for administration of the Fisheries Management Act 1994 and the Marine Estate Management Act 2014. The primary objective of the Fisheries branch is to deliver on expectations relating to both economic growth and careful stewardship of our aquatic resources. The Branch leads NSW fisheries and aquaculture industry management, development and conservation through research, policy and regulatory compliance to foster sustainable and economically viable commercial, recreational and aboriginal fishing and aquaculture sectors. The Branch manages the protection of key fish habitats and marine biodiversity, threatened species, oversees fish stock conservation._

About the role


The role provides a range of administrative and operational support services primarily to facilitate the operation of Marine Operations and Fisheries Compliance business units.

The Business Support Officer is a critical role as it supports a range of core functions including permit and financial administration.

The role is varied and from time to time is expected to assist with the field operations of Jervis Bay Marine Park so the role will include some boating and site visits.


  • Front counter services and directing public enquiries at the Huskisson Office.
  • Under supervision, develop and maintain effective relationships with Local Aboriginal Land Councils, Tribal Councils, Community Councils, and other indigenous representatives of the Jervis Bay area.
  • Assist the Manager and Marine Park Officer with field tasks which may include boating and some light physical work outdoors.
  • Assist the Marine Park staff to engage positively with Aboriginal people undertaking the cultural use of marine resources.
  • Procuring goods and services as well as following purchasing procedures.
  • General administrative tasks as directed.

About You
We are looking for someone willing, motivated, with attention to detail. A background in administrative support, with experience in financial management would be valuable.

You will be someone who takes pride in finding solutions, resolving issues and providing assistance to our clients, stakeholders and colleagues.


  • Knowledge, respect and understanding of Aboriginal cultural values and issues of the Jervis Bay area.
  • Strong organisation skills with an ability to communicate positively with a diverse group of stakeholders that includes persons from all the Aboriginal representative groups of the area.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to accommodate changing priorities.
  • A willingness to undertake training and a capacity to learn administrative skills as required.
  • This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
