About the role

The Microbiology laboratory provides pathology testing for infectious diseases and infections. The laboratory deals with many various types of samples, including testing for COVID-19. The laboratory assistant role supports the daily functions of the lab, including supporting the scientists.

The main roles include preparing samples for referral to external laboratories, handling stock inventory including the weekly culture media deliveries, performing sample testing and quality control, and daily lab maintenance duties.

You will join a great team of scientists and be involved in all the laboratory activities, including continuing education and development.

Full training is provided, including all aspects of laboratory health and safety.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:
Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent

Ability to act independently and cooperatively

Customer focus approach

A strong commitment to high quality care

The ability to work as part of a diverse team

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Vaccination against infectious disease is a mandatory requirement of this role.
