The Opportunity
The Global Water Institute (GWI), UNSW, has an opportunity for a
Research Assistant.

In this role you will provide research and administrative support to research activities in GWI in the Faculties of Arts, Design and Architecture, Science and Engineering in collaboration with Indigenous communities, including the Yuwaya Ngarra-li Partnership and Indigenous River Rangers Project with the Dharriwaa Elders Group at Walgett NSW, and Community Garden and Food Security Project, Bourke Aboriginal Community Health Service.

As the
Research Assistant you will participate in and complete cultural induction and training.

On occasion you will travel to communities in remote and regional NSW, and to work in accordance with community protocols.


This role reports to A/Prof Martin Andersen (Water Research Laboratory - School of Civil and Environmental Engineering) and A/Prof Ruth McCausland (UNSW Director of Yuwaya Ngarra-li).

This role has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level 4 $75,927 per annum + 17% superannuation

Skills & Experience

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma with an equivalent combination of relevant qualifications and work experience.
  • Understanding of water policy and the role of Aboriginal communitycontrolled organisations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform a range of research and administrative tasks as requested.
  • Sound organisational skills including ability to prioritise tasks and duties to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use and administration of online systems and databases. (if necessary)
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
