To be eligible to be considered for this position you must be a current Victorian Public Service (VPS) employee employed on an ongoing, fixed term or casual basis.

As part of the Machinery of Government changes announced by the Premier of Victoria, from 1 January 2023, the Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions (DJPR) has been renamed Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR).

As part of these changes this position will transfer to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).
The Team
The position of Biosecurity Officer forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria / Biosecurity and Agriculture Services.

Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.

Agriculture Victoria consists of Agriculture Victoria Research, Biosecurity and Agriculture Services, Agriculture Policy, Animal Welfare Victoria and Agriculture Regulatory Policy and Agriculture Victoria Business and Finance Services.

The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.

The Role

You will work as a member of a diverse team within the Northern region to ensure delivery of high quality services in the areas of invasives plants and animals, pest and disease surveillance, legislation and enforcement management and emergency preparedness and response.

The position plays a key role in supporting industry and communities in mitigating the economic and social effects of invasive plants, animals, and pests and disease in Victoria.


  • Following training and study, achieve gazettal as an Authorised Officer pursuant to the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) 1992, Plant Biosecurity Act 2010 (Limited Powers) and Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 198
  • Under guidance, monitor for specific invasive species, pests or diseases as required and maintain equipment and records to specified standards.
  • Provide extension material to assist landholders to meet their legal obligations and proactively encourage voluntary participation in invasive plant and animal control and plant biosecurity matters
About You

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the division, establishing strong working relationships with internal staff and various external stakeholders including private landowners, community and industry groups as well as local and state government agencies.
