Role Details:

The Assessment Officer is a role within Community Investment and Support, Screening Unit and is accountable to the Team Leader, Assessment for:

  • making decisions on a person's suitability to work with children and vulnerable people
- conducting relevant history assessment on child protection and criminal history information and screening in accordance with assessment procedures
- preparing written assessment briefings regarding criminal offending
- providing high quality customer service to achieve the Screening Unit's objectives.


Key Outcomes and Accountabilities:

  • Make decisions based on relevant history information on the suitability of people to work or volunteer with children, people with a disability, and other vulnerable people.
  • Recognise when escalation to a higher level is appropriate/required in accordance with the Screening Unit approvals authorisation matrix.
  • Write concise and coherent briefings and determine the applicant's suitability to work within the required timeframe.
  • Check accuracy of information, follow procedures and processes to avoid errors, take corrective action to minimise mistakes, and notify others when appropriate.
  • Work with mínimal supervision, handle high volumes of work, use initiative, organise priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively to develop effective working relationships with peers, staff and stakeholders in order to deliver quality and timely communications and services.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment where skills and knowledge are shared, and staff are supported and mentored as required.

Note:

Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department.

The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

About the Business:


Community Investment and Support is responsible for the provision of many vital services to the South Australian public to help build stronger and better-connected communities.

The division provides screening of those who work with children or vulnerable people, as well as procurement of goods and services for the department, including important social services from the not-for profit sector.


The division also provides grants and commissions services to promote economic participation, as well as a range of concessions to the community, and interpreting and translating services to both public and private organisations.


Role Status:
Term up to 22/09/2023


Salary Range:
$74,315 - $77,901
