About the role
The role is responsible to initiate, develop, conduct, and supervise all services provided by the Service Laboratory.

This role also provides assistance to other Genetic and Molecular Pathology sections implementing/using new Genomic tests and Sequencing technology where required.

In addition, this role is to liaise with clinicians requesting genetic tests for cancer and complex non-cancer-related genetic disorders regarding the appropriateness of the tests and sample requirements.


The Head of Service Laboratory will:

  • Demonstrate increased professional expertise, competence, and experience to perform standard professional tasks within the discipline.
  • Provide professional services to client groups in circumstances requiring increasingly _complex _practice skills.
  • Demonstrate expertise obtained through appropriate professional development and operational experience.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications:


The Requirements for Supervision in the Clinical Governance of Medical Pathology Laboratories (Fifth Edition 2018) by the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC), defines a scientist as a person with competence to perform the functions required and who is authorised to perform these functions.

A medical scientist must possess one of the following qualifications:

- _An associate qualification conferred by the Australian Institute of Medical Technologists before 1 December 1973_.

Essential Requirements:


  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC)
  • Working With Children Check (DHS)
  • Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description.
