About the role

Working within the dynamic Capability Support Branch, the Assistant Director - Benefits Management Practice Lead is responsible for the development, establishment and continuous improvement of the agency's portfolio, program and project benefit management frameworks, capabilities and standards, driving an uplift in maturity to support the fulfilment of integrated organisational outcomes and benefits.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the agency's portfolio, program and project benefit management frameworks, processes, tools and standards
  • Establish an approach for forecasting, planning and monitoring the emergence and effective realisation of anticipated benefits
  • Lead, manage and develop the strategy, implementation and evaluation of the portfolio's benefit plan
  • In a partnered approach, facilitate the building of benefits management staff's capabilities across the portfolio, through appropriate professional development, mentoring and coaching
  • Lead the benefits management specialist support and consultancy services for programs and projects, which may include:
o identifying specific measures and mechanisms by which benefits can be measured

o monitoring benefits against what was predicted in the business case and ensuring that all participants are informed and involved throughout the change program

o supporting operational managers to ensure that all plans, work packages and deliverables are aligned to the expected benefits and leading activities required in the realisation of the benefits of each part of the change program

o guiding and developing high quality documentation, such as benefits plans and reports.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering benefits management support to meet the complex needs of the portfolio, programs and/or projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, strong team skills and customer service, including the ability to foster effective relationships through consultation and sharing of information.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications skills including experience in explaining complex concepts, as well as the preparation and delivery of a range of written material to key stakeholders.
