Description

We are looking for a dynamic leader to join us in the pivotal role of Dean, School of Design and Architecture.

As the Dean of School, you will be responsible for the academic leadership, management, and performance of the School.

Reporting to the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, you will work collaboratively with senior leaders across the university and the academic leadership team within the School to develop and implement strategies aligned with the university's strategic direction to be Australia's leading university in science, technology, and innovation.

Utilising your strong leadership, you will drive the strategic development and management of the School's academic offerings, research profile, student experience and external engagement and will lead a team of Academic Departments and Centres to operationalise this strategy.

The Dean will seek out and foster new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships among disciplines within and between other schools and will be responsible for building the external profile of the school.

You will also represent the university and School in external engagement and research activities relevant to the School and related areas of study.

The Dean is a member of the Academic Executive Group within the Academic Portfolio and the Vice Chancellors Advisory Group.

As such, the role carries a shared responsibility for shaping and achieving the university's strategic vision in relation to teaching, research and innovation and the university's growth and sustainability for the future.

In particular, the role will be responsible for leading the creation of an innovation ecosystem throughout the School, including strong internal and external partnerships; developing a rich culture of excellence and innovation in teaching and research through its departments and discipline groups; and building the commercial focus of the school through the strategic development of products and services.

Swinburne's School of Design and Architecture leads the world in high-quality, industry-relevant, technology-led design education and research. We pursue future production and interaction technologies, design for health and wellbeing and sustainable urban ecologies.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

Demonstrated profile as a national or international leader in a relevant field and the ability to lead across the broader discipline areas within this field.
Demonstrated national and international academic research and teaching track record.
Demonstrated ability to lead the development of new course offerings in relevant disciplines and leading and managing staff to deliver innovative course design in a multidisciplinary setting.
Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with a wide variety of academics, work within a consultative, team environment in multidisciplinary contexts. Ability to liaise with senior external members of relevant professions in industry and government.
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage staff involved in research programs to achieve at national and international levels through collaborations and joint research involving other universities, industry, the professions, and government.

Qualifications

A PhD qualification in discipline relevant to the School.
