Position Information:


Irrawang High School is proudly a comprehensive high school catering for students from Years 7-12, including 11 support classes, with a strong focus on inclusive practices and positive wellbeing.

The Technological and Applied Studies Faculty provides a wide range of elective and mandatory curriculum to students including Technology Mandatory 7-8, Industrial Technology Timber, Industrial Technology Metal, Industrial Technology Multi-Media, Engineering Studies, Food Technology, ISTEM, Textiles Technology, Agriculture, Hospitality, Child Studies, Construction, Primary Industries and Marine Studies.


The school is located on Worimi land in Raymond Terrace in the lower Hunter Region with an enrolment of 960 students, 19% of whom identify as Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander attend Irrawang High School.

The school prides itself on nurturing strong connections and relationships with a proactive P&C and Youyoong AECG.


There is a strong emphasis on positive behaviour for learning, through a culture of connectedness and embedded positive behaviour for learning values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best.

The school provides a learning environment that aims to give each student the opportunity to achieve their highest potential through the development of the whole student.


Selection Criteria:

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Extensive knowledge and thorough understanding of curriculum and assessment practices as well as a proven ability to attract high levels of engagement from a diverse range of students;
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, develop and lead staff in creating and maintaining safe and supportive learning environments;
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, communication and organisation skills with demonstrated capacity to lead and manage the TAS faculty with diverse experiences focusing on a culture of innovation and collaboration;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as a highly effective and collaborative member of the school leadership team in the implementation of its vision and strategic directions.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
