About the role:


The Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Manager - Asia Pacific provides senior leadership for the implementation of Stantec's HSSE corporate strategy within the Asia Pacific region.

The HSSE Manager aligns services and resources with the needs of the business to support Stantec's HSSE strategy.

Stantec's Asia Pacific region has approximately 4200 people located in 6 countries and multiple offices.


Reporting to the Director of HSSE Operations Global, the HSSE Manager will be responsible for directing and managing a team of geographically based HSSE Advisors, driving an organisational HSSE culture and maintaining compliance with both legal and client requirements.

This active leadership role provides trusted advisor services to Stantec Asia Pacific's senior leadership and their teams and is a member of the Global HSSE Managers team.


Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Work closely and directly with regional leadership to drive the achievement of the HSSE metrics and performance within their respective areas.
  • Lead and manage the HSSE team to support the various offices, business units and projects across Asia Pacific to achieve the HSSE Regional Plan and HSSE Program.
  • Respond to relevant legislative changes and trends which may impact the HSSE Program.
  • Coordinate communication and training related to HSSE tools and practices.
  • Participate in HSSE audit activities, whether internally or externally driven. Work with the Business and Operations Directors to review internal practice audit results, identify root causes for nonconformances, develop improvement plans, and follow up on action items with operational leaders within area of responsibility.
  • Analyse HSSE data, identify trends and develop tactics and strategies in response
  • Investigate critical incidents using root cause analysis and prepare lessons learned.
  • Conduct meetings and training related to Stantec health and safety objectives.
  • Provide project HSSE related support including bid development and assistance
  • Partner with and provide backup for the Director HSSE Operations Global

To be successful for this role, you will need:

A recognised industry qualification and 8 years' experience in an engineering, environmental sciences and/or project management consulting environment—plus the understanding of working in a global matrixed professional services firm.


In-depth experience with ISO 45001:2018; ISO 19001:2015 or equivalent EHS management systems is a must, along with knowledge and working experience with occupational health and safety regulations, standards and systems within the Australian and New Zealand market.

Your ability to influence will be as important as your technical skills.

This role will see you working across Asia Pacific, collaborating closely with key internal clients across numerous geographic locations and time zones.


Self-management skills are crucial; you will need to be able to prioritise workloads whilst maintaining strong working relationships with your internal clients and your colleagues both locally and across the wider Stantec Global team.
