As an engagement and communications professional you will oversee the revitalisation and modernisation of Forestry's outreach program to improve community understanding and input to forestry and quarry operations, and to help position Forestry as a trusted and accessible leader in its field.


The Forestry team will help you to develop a rapid understanding of our activities, our stakeholders and our challenges; and the department's corporate team will support you with internal policies, procedures and platforms, and help you develop and publish content.


Capacity building within the Forestry team and establishing linkages with other relevant organisations will be an important focus of this temporary role.


As Forestry's engagement and communications specialist, you will oversee the ongoing development and implementation of a contemporary and effective engagement and communications program to position Forestry as a trusted and accessible leader overseeing native forestry and quarrying activities.


You will develop and support operational units implement best practice engagement and communications strategies, processes and systems in alignment with DAF policies and procedures, including engagement and communication protocols, stakeholder databases, risk assessments, and record keeping.


The Principal Project Officer will also be responsible for the development of capacity and capability within the Forestry business group to meaningfully engage and communicate with stakeholders and the broader community who have an interest in, or are impacted by, our business.

You will also be able to build strategic relationships within DAF, other government agencies, and external parties such as industry associations and industry training organisations, to support Forestry's engagement and communication.

You will need to demonstrate the following leadership capabilities to be successful in the role:

  • Inspire others to embrace change initiatives, overcoming barriers and resistance through proactive consultation and engagement
  • Remain composed during highstakes situations, supporting the team to recognise gaps in information and seek advice to enable a prompt and considered response
  • Work with the team to develop shared objectives and clear indicators for success
  • Consider the future skills required to deliver program objectives and implements strategies to support succession of critical roles and capabilities
  • Support others to embrace and operate within legislative and policy frameworks that guide everyday practice
Other requirements

  • Experience and / or a tertiary qualification in communication, engagement or similar field.
  • Experience working across digital publishing platforms, including websites and social media
  • Possession of a current Queensland C Class driver's license or equivalent is highly desirable.
