About Mt Arthur Coal:


New South Wales Energy Coal consists of the Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.

The site produces coal for international customers in the energy sector.

The mobile mining fleet consists of 70 dump trucks which are loaded by electric rope shovels and hydraulic excavators, and supported by a variety of ancillary equipment.


About the Role:


As the Production Manager role at NSWEC's Mt Arthur Mine you will be a key member of our leadership team with the largest operational portfolio.


Following BHP's closure announcement of Mt Arthur, the asset continues to work through our 'path to 2030' with tight integration between our BAU operations and the Transition Project.

Our priority will continue to be safe and sustainable operations, our people, and positively impacting the communities that we operate in, here in the Hunter Valley.


This residential opportunity presents a unique and challenging environment to lead a large team through an important phase of this operations' history, by achieving safe and sustainable production, sustaining high performance levels, and leading our people through a critical phase as the BHP portfolio strategy continues to progress.


In this role you will:


  • Establish a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, whilst being well versed in engaging, developing, and coaching business wide site leaders
  • Review the risk profile for the Production teams ensuring and verifying material risk controls are appropriately designed, deployed and effective
  • Sets consistent expectations, ways of working and execution of production processes to enable compliance to plan and performance
  • Identify, build, and develop production talent and capability across the team to ensure best in class talent retention and development
  • Be accountable for delivering safe, stable, and reliable operations for the Production department which includes drill and blast, haulage (dispatch teams), mine services, training execution teams and operational crews
  • Have accountability for delivering short, medium and longterm objectives and key performance measures across health & safety and production
  • Be responsible for full departmental cost control through effective management of people, resources and assets
  • Be one of the key business representatives in dealing with coal labour unions
  • Ensure effective navigation of the functional models and skilled and driving collaborative outcomes with integrated teams

About You:


  • Tertiary qualified with previous mining production experience
  • Highly proficient in translating and executing long and mediumterm plans and driving execution performance through multiple production teams,
  • Highly capable problem solver who demonstrates thought leadership and informed judgement,
  • Highly resilient team member who can empower teams to thrive in ambiguity
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to support crossdepartmental engagement and effective communication throughout multiple levels of the business
  • Positively reenforcing team member who thrives in working in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Planned and organised with high attention to detail
  • Proven in empowering teams to make effective decisions aligned to the asset's strategic direction
  • Foundational leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen
