The Markets division is responsible for the Trading and Sales activities in financial markets encompassing all Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Fixed Income and Interest Rate products.
Desk Strategists are part of the Global Sales Team in the Markets business, which consists of around 130 people based in multiple centres across Australia, as well as offshore centres in London, New York, Amsterdam, Auckland, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Do work that matters:
As Associate Director, Interest Rate Strategy, you will play a leading role in establishing, developing and articulating CBA's strategic views on Australia, New Zealand and global interest rate markets to the Bank's staff and clients.
There is a key focus on provision of executable Australia and New Zealand fixed income and interest rate trade ideas.
The role is an integral part of the fixed income and interest rate strategy team, and broader Global Markets Institutional Sales team.
You will report to the Head of Macro Strategy, and work closely with Sales, Trading, DCM, QDAT and the independent Research team to cover a wide range of clients across numerous segments, including Business Bank, Corporate and Institutional.
More specifically, you will:
- Be Accountable for independently developing interest rate trade ideas and producing relevant, regular and timely notes with mínimal supervision. A strong market awareness, incorporating strategic, quantitative and economic considerations is expected.
- You will play a leading role in provision of fixed income ideas, including bonds, semis, and SSAs as appropriate.
- Coverage may include pieces on OIS and swap markets, BBSW, SOFR, domestic and crosscurrency basis swaps, options (bond and swap), and relevant regulatory and banking issues as required.
- Use and support further development of CBA market database and quantitative analysis (QDAT) as appropriate.
- Liaison and support to Fixed Income & Rates Trading, DCM and Sales teams in line with compliance and regulatory guidelines.
- Proactive marketing role/presence with relevant client base, particularly balance sheets & institutional investors.
- Contribution and adherence to CBA policies including confidentiality requirements, media and privacy policies alongside all compliance related protocols.
- Adding value to CBA's clients and CBA's internal Sales and Trading staff through the provision of timely strategy views and advice.
- Travel to meet and present strategy to the CBA Group's clients as required (domestically and internationally).
- Lift the profile of CBA with our key institutional, corporate and investor client base.
- Collaboration with the independent Research team as required.
We're interested in hearing from people who have:
- Strong in-depth knowledge of global financial markets, particularly Australia, New Zealand, and US fixed income, option and interest rate markets and products.
- Analytical with strong problem solving, numerical and verbal reasoning skills
- Ability to take responsibility for ongoing distribution of notes & views when required.
- Strong influencing, written & verbal communication skills, including potential media exposure.
- Teamorientated attitude is essential. As is the ability to work independently.
