Principal Freedom of Information and Privacy Officer

  • Salary: $129,379 $151,259 (plus superannuation)

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Freedom of Information and Privacy Officer to join our team at the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.


About the role


This position sits in the Freedom of Information and Privacy team in the Public and Administrative Law unit of the Legal and Legislation Branch.

The Branch's role is to provide high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.

There is always a great variety of interesting work.

The Department covers a diverse range of portfolios, including:


  • Trade and Investment;
  • Creative Industries;
  • Tourism, Sport and Major Events;
  • Commonwealth Games;
  • Regional Development;
  • Employment Programs; and
  • Training, Skills and Higher Education.


Our FOI and Privacy Officers ensure compliance with the _Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) _(the FOI Act) and the _Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic)_ (the Privacy Act) by providing timely, expert and authoritative advice on complex information requests.


The successful applicant will form part of a small, high performing team that values excellence, collaboration, and supporting one another.

About You

To success in the role, you will need:

  • High degree of technical proficiency in relation to the FOI and Privacy Act, or significant experience in an administrative law, governance or compliance role, preferably within government.
  • Sophisticated stakeholder engagement skills, including an ability to manage and build beneficial partnerships across the department, portfolio agencies, Ministerial offices and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to drive a culture of continuous improvement, including identifying opportunities to leverage efficiencies and integrate solutions into ongoing work processes.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to adapt quickly flexibly to a changing environment.
