Position Summary

The work of the Data Governance & Integration Group (DGIG) includes:

  • building and implementing the Institute's data integration strategies including major data assets,
such as the National Integrated Health Services Information
- protecting the confidentiality and privacy of data holdings through data governance leadership and

the AIHW Ethics Committee
- managing key relationships across government in support of the public sector data agenda.

The Data Linkage Unit (DLU) leads the Institute's work in statistical record linkage of data sets from health

and community services, to support person-based analyses that better inform policy in these areas. Staff in

the Unit undertake data linkage and build linked data products for client use in secure research

environments, in accordance with data provider and ethics committee approvals.

Under general direction you will:

  • Undertake data linkage and linked data set assembly projects.
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to external researchers and other areas of the Institute.
  • Undertake key project work, including task prioritisation, collaborating with other team members and
delivering outputs in accordance with milestone and quality expectations.

  • Maintain record management for projects.
  • Ensure project data and outputs maintain confidentiality and adhere to approval requirements.
Selection Criteria

Important


  • Demonstrated capacity to manipulate and interrogate data sets using a range of software such as
SAS, R, Python or SQL.


  • Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise one's workload and escalate
issues when required.


  • Demonstrated communication skills including the ability to communicate with a range of internal and
external stakeholders.


  • Good project administration experience, including the ability to maintain accurate documentation
and records.


  • Good attention to detail and data checking skills.
Desirable

Demonstrated experience or knowledge of:
data linkage, linked dataset creation, machine learning

or data mining.

Academic qualifications in data science, mathematics, statistics, data engineering, computer science,

psychology, economics or other fields with a strong quantitative component will be highly regarded.
