Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Mental Health Programs Officer on a contract for 10 weeks.


Position Overview

Duties & Responsibilities:

In accordance with the principles of workplace diversity, Work Health and Safety, participative work practices, APS values and APS Employment Principles, the successful applicants will:

  • Assist with aspects of the strategic review, including provision/collection of information/data to inform the review and reporting thereof.
  • Assist with desktop assessments of current group programs against an evaluation matrix to determine what is fit for purpose.
  • Assist with the development of a prioritised options list of recommended group programs.
  • Assist with the development of the Program Management Strategy and Framework and associated Communications Plan to guide the future delivery and management of programs.
  • Monitor, review and report on Agency's Group Programs, projects and community based mental health literacy initiatives, maintaining a focus on quality and national consistency.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of community based mental health literacy initiatives. (E.g. ASIST, MHFA).
  • Develop, document and maintain service delivery pathways for internal and external stakeholder relationships that integrate group program knowledge, coordination and service delivery.
  • Identify and establish processes that will support the promotion of group program delivery across internal and external networks.
  • Assist with the evaluation of current group programs to promote continuous improvement and compliance with specifications required in current contracts.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of advice, briefings, papers, submissions and correspondence.
  • Actively promote a culture of continuous quality improvement across MHWSD group programs and provide leadership in quality and systems improvement processes.
  • Attend the monthly meeting with the Open Arms Assistant Directors, Clinical Outreach and Groups (ADCOGs).

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly, both orally and in writing. The applicant will understand and address the key concerns of stakeholders, and tailor communications to suit the audience.

The applicant will be able to develop a clear understanding of the issues, and other people's expectations and concerns in order to develop appropriate outcomes.


Essential Requirements:


  • Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or mental health related field.
  • Experience in program design and evaluation would be advantageous.
  • Policy and project management qualifications and experience are highly desirable.
  • Clinical experience in coordinating the delivery of clinical services is highly desirable.
  • Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance
