  • Experience in or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge in preanalytical processes, e.g loading samples onto analysers, aliquoting, storage, retrieval of specimens, performing blood gases etc.
  • Skills or the ability to acquire skills in basic laboratory processes and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively use or learn to use the Laboratory Information System. Abilty to demonstrate basic computer skills
  • Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work in a conscientious and accurate manner with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and Scientific / Technical staff orally and in writing, including the ability to follow detailed operational instructions.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to focus in a busy, complex environment.
  • Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
  • Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
  • Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Nil mandatory qualifications are required for this role although a Certificate III Pathology (or similar) or ability to gain this qualification is desirable.
  • Note: This is an entry level position.
  • The Chemical Pathology Laboratory delivers a 24hour, 7day service. In this workplace, all newly appointed Laboratory staff may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24hour 7day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
  • You will be expected to participate in the Chemical Pathology roster and will work a combination of weekday, afternoon, over night and weekend shifts within each fortnight (including all public holidays).
