The role


The Carbon Business Manager will play a lead role in implementing carbon, sustainability and circular economy strategies that are aligned to Cleanaway's Blueprint 2030 strategy to maximise commercial value.

Reporting to the Head of Carbon, the Carbon Business Manager will also work closely with members of the Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions team.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Execute strategies to maximise value of carbon, sustainability, and circular economy credits that are created.
  • Implement new decarbonisation/sustainability technologies in service of Cleanaway and its customers meeting their carbon, sustainability, and circular economy ambitions.
  • Ensure robust and effective commercial and technological risk assessment and management.
  • Facilitate and support key external stakeholder engagement in relation to commercial performance and initiatives and enable productive dialogue.
  • Build Cleanaway's Carbon business strategy within the parameters of business plans, performance targets and commitments.
  • Identify and secure appropriate financial instruments (e.g. subsidies) to improve project economics.

About you


To succeed in this role, you will have strong experience developing business cases and scoping studies for new revenue streams with an understanding of key sustainability topics relevant to the waste sector, including circular economy and carbon.


Additionally, you will possess:

  • A Tertiary qualification in sustainability, environment, engineering, science, or other relevant discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in strategy and implementation roles.
  • Track record in program management and driving outcomes with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience with creating value from carbon credit schemes e.g. ACCU, and other environmental crediting schemes (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience of negotiation and influencing with internal and external stakeholders.
