Position Information:

Black Hill Public School is a small school, serving a rural area surrounded by Newcastle, Maitland and Kurri Kurri.

Student enrolments are drawn from a wide range of geographical areas and communities, including Black Hill, Kurri Kurri, Thornton, Wallsend, Minmi and Cessnock.

The school has a current enrolment of 87 students with 19% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.


The school is an active and proud member of the Hunter Principal Network, Gateway Learning Community and the Maitland Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG).

The successful applicant will be based at Black Hill PS and support primary and secondary schools within the Hunter and Maitland Principal Networks.

You will be responsible for working with a diverse range of schools, varying in student population and complexity.


Due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement to travel between schools to provide proactive face to face support.


Selection Criteria:

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach students with learning and support needs and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs in regular classes, using knowledge and understanding of relevant disability legislation and Department of Education policies

Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers

Demonstrated ability to facilitate access for learning and support teachers, school teams and communities of schools to professional learning, skills training, including trauma informed practice, current research and educational technology

Support learning and support teachers in schools in the development and implementation of adjusted educational programs, for students with additional learning and support needs


General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6.
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
