About the Organisation

Townsville City Council is the largest local government authority in Northern Australia.

It provides and maintains over $5.4b worth of community assets including water and wastewater network and treatment, bridges, drainage, roads, waste management, community facilities and sporting venues amongst others.


The General Manager Commercial & Financial Services is a Senior Leadership role with clear expectations for role-modelling the performance standards, values, behaviours, and attitudes that are integral to the Council workplace culture and stakeholder reputation as an organisation of excellence.

About the Role


You will be accountable to the Chief Financial Officer and will be focused on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community; growing and managing customer relationships, developing a culture of customer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping how they deliver services to maximise value.


You will be required to work collaboratively across the entire organisation and specifically the Assets, Property, Procurement, Maintenance and Finance areas to confirm a cohesive cross functional system and process ensuring we have a delivery model that supports and enhances business requirements and enhances the customer experience.


Additionally, you will provide Council wide leadership and specialist advice on the interaction of financial and commercial requirements, process, and outcomes across the organisation.

About the Person


To be considered, you will have experience in designing and developing contemporary finance and commercial processes that enable and support business information requirements, particularly with chart of account design and budget process design experience.


You will have a demonstrated knowledge of Asset maintenance systems and interaction with Finance Systems and a deep understanding of leading and delivering collaborative process change across a Finance function.
