About the Role


We are seeking an experienced and professional actuary, with experience in delivering valuation and financial reporting, including regulatory capital reporting.

The role is to support the actuarial valuation team during a parental leave vacancy.


Core Responsibilities:

1) Key contributor to quarterly reporting:

  • Creation of direct business policy liabilities across Swiss Re's reporting bases
  • Support the consolidation of company results on local valuation and capital reporting bases
  • Analysis of earnings and surplus on various local valuation and capital reporting bases
  • Communicating results with stakeholders
  • Preparation of APRA quarterly reporting
  • Ensure documentation and controls are followed and remain current
2) Key contributor to annual reporting

  • Support preparation of year end reporting disclosures to regulators
  • Support the Appointed Actuary in preparing Actuarial Valuation Report and Financial Condition report
3) Support the integration and implementation of IFRS17 into BAU

4) Support capital management initiatives and disclosures including determination of target surplus requirement and preparation of Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process Report

5) Key contributor to experience study and assumption review:

  • Support the yearly experience study process, providing initial analysis of results from the Experience Studies team and report on insights for the direct business portfolio
  • Develop an understanding of the business and propose ideas to improve profitability and efficiency
  • Ad hoc support of projects

About You

You will possess:

  • Fellow of Australian Institute of Actuaries qualification (or equivalent);
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate actuarial or life & health insurance industry;
  • At least 2 years in Australian or New Zealand life insurance valuations and local capital requirements;
  • Knowledge of the Australian L&H market;
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to handle both conceptual and practical issues;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently, good judgement and business insight; and
  • Ability to collaborate in a team and contribute to the broader team on local and global business initiatives.
Knowledge of actuarial valuation systems, particularly AXIS, as well as experience with life insurance accounting, management reporting and actuarial valuation system implementation is advantageous


About the Team


Swiss Re Australia's Life & Health Actuarial Management team comprises approximately two dozen staff across our Sydney and Bangalore offices, responsible for delivering all actuarial reporting requirements and for developing a deep understanding of the diverse and complex reinsurance business in Australia and New Zealand.

Our team aims to proactively provide useful insights to senior leaders locally and globally.

We collaborate with cross functional teams throughout Swiss Re to help deliver efficiently implemented projects and reinsurance offerings to our clients.
