About the Role


Working as directed by the Supervisor, this customer focussed role is responsible for installing, maintaining, diagnosing faults, repairs, testing, commissioning, and certifying all electrical equipment and appliances to specification.


The role of the Electrician may be required from time to time to undertake all forms of electrical work including domestic, commercial, and industrial and High Voltage installation.

This position has a focus on safety and delivering customer needs in a timely and efficient manner.


It is largely technically task based with administrative requirements for compliance approval, procurement, and financials to ensure that the job is closed out to satisfactory completion for the client and to UGL standards.

Electricians work on rosters that meet operational needs and may be required to work shifts, weekends and from time to time to travel and work at locations outside their base.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities; Safety

  • Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Participate in daily prestart meetings and other safety communications.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, prework checklists and risk assessments.
  • Comply and have input into safe working procedures and in the preparation of Job Safety Analyses (JSA's).
  • Report hazards, incidents, and accidents within company guidelines.
  • Assist with safety sections for reports, tenders, and proposals. Technical
  • Ensure all work performed is in accordance with the current AS/NZS 3000, Electricity Act 1992, Electrical Safety Regulations, relevant standards, codes, and legislations.
  • Develop wiring diagrams and circuit and layout drawings for electrical installation.
  • Interpret circuit drawings to identify requirements and complete electrical wiring and installations.
  • Diagnose faults, identify defects, and complete repairs in a prompt and efficient manner in line with best practice.
  • Maintain tunnel ventilation equipment such as, but not limited to, axial fans, damper controls, air compressors, vibration analysis equipment and associated system sensors.
  • Maintain tunnel drainage system equipment such as, but not limited to, pumps, level sensors and other associated system sensors.
  • Maintain lighting systems associated with tunnels.
  • Maintain electrical equipment such as, but not limited to, switchboards, control panels, switchgear, fittings, cabling, earthing systems, and control systems.
  • Maintain equipment such as but not limited to communications cabling, antenna, and fibre systems.
  • Provide detailed and accurate maintenance activity reporting.
  • Undertake periodical electrical testing of appliances and installations.
  • Utilise tickets and license's e.g., elevated platform to assist in the performance of tasks.
  • Operate hand tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Planning and organising of activities in consultation with the Manager, including the setting of priorities and allocation of available resources to ensure objectives and deadlines are met.
  • Provide input into the cost estimate for allocated projects in terms of labour, materials and time.
  • Quantify, control, receipt and issue of materials required for the timely completion of projects.
  • Transport tools, materials, and work pieces to and from sites or workbenches.
  • Coach and mentor electrical apprentices in line with company and electrical standards.
  • Ensure work performed meets safety, environment, security, quality, cost, time, and customer requirements set by UGL
  • Ensure any work performed by contractor/s meets all UGL and Customer requirements including inductions, plant & equipment, safety and quality plans and competency management.
  • Actively participate in the induction, competency assessment and training programs, and other programs which support achievement of company and project goals.
  • Actively participate in regular learning and development programs to continually enhance and further develop skills and continuously improve capabilities and performance.
  • Proactively continuously monitor and evaluation systems and procedures specific to site works to ensure that they are up to date, compliant and up to date in line with best practice.
  • Ensure that workspace, tools, and equipment is well managed, tidy, organised and safe.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Cert III in Electrotechnology or qualification in equivalent field and a minimum of two years' experience as an electrician via skills acquired by training and/or experience.
  • Post Trade certificate or Cert IV in Electrotechnology or qualification in equivalent field and a minimum of two years' experience as an electrician via skills acquired by training and/or experience.
