The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Manager, Prison Disability Support Initiative to provide a critical role within Corrections and Justice Services.

About the business unit
Corrections Victoria (CV) is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's corrections system.

As a service agency within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, CV develops and implements policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

The Rehabilitation and Reintegration Branch (RRB), within the Offender Services Division of CV, is responsible for a range of offender programs and services across both prisons and Community Correctional Services.

RRB's purpose is to contribute to a safer community through a safe and humane corrections system that provides opportunities for rehabilitation, supports reintegration and working toward Aboriginal self-determination.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Branch as the Manager, Prison Disability Support Initiative you will lead a multi-disciplinary team providing assessment, treatment, behaviour support and other interventions for prisoners with disability and complex needs, with specific focus on prisoners with cognitive impairment.

You will continue to develop the PDSI service, as well as providing clinical leadership and line management to the team.


Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide strategic and clinical leadership and oversight of the delivery of services to service users, in alignment with best practice, government policy, legal, stakeholder and operational priorities.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary team including facilitating access to clinical supervision for clinical staff, overseeing performance management, and professional development opportunities for all staff working within the Prison Disability Support Initiative.
  • Proactively identify and analyse emerging systemic issues and trends impacting delivery of clinical services. Provide authoritative advice to senior management about how to respond to those issues, including implications and risk management strategies.

About you


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of four years post-registration clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing values driven leadership within a highly complex service delivery area, preferably in relation to people with disability and complex needs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading staff.
  • Experience in and knowledge of assessment, individual and group treatment and behaviour intervention treatment models with complex populations.
  • An understanding of the challenges involved in working within a forensic environment.

Qualifications:


  • Registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • A current Victorian driver's licence is required.

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal.

This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

  • COVID19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
