Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the North East of Melbourne and state-wide.

We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our purpose, which is to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.

About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department
Our department is a vibrant and fast-paced environment with a team of around 40 staff members across three sites. We function as one department and work in a supportive and friendly environment. We provide service to inpatients, outpatients and home/community programs, spanning acute care, sub-acute care and rehabilitation.

Our Dietitians are experts in medical nutrition therapy across a range of clinical specialties and are organised into clinical streams, each with a senior leader:
specialist medicine, ICU/surgical/gastro, oncology, paediatrics and mental health, sub-acute & rehab. Other key activities include staff education and development, student training, quality improvement, research and food service.

About the role:

The purpose of our casual roles is to provide clinical backfill for staff on leave and to fill short-term vacancies.

We are ideally seeking two casuals who can work full time when needed due the amount of work available, but we will consider applicants with less availability, depending on your expertise, days available and our needs.

We are especially keen to recruit people who want to pursue a longer-term career at Austin.

The work could be in any of our clinical areas however we do have some specific work from now to end July in our specialist medicine stream at 25 hrs/week (workload: general medicine, neurosurgery and renal) if this is of interest to you.

Otherwise we need cover across various specialist medicine units, oncology, surgical, aged care and rehab. Work will include inpatients and outpatients and potentially home-based programs.

Roster and work hours will be variable, based on department needs.

Rostering will usually be done a few weeks ahead for planned leave, but shifts will also come up at short notice when there is unplanned leave.

Weekend work may be an option.

About you:

You will have:

  • Significant experience (ideally a minimum of 3 years) in a large and fastpaced hospital environment.
  • Experience in a variety of clinical areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive working relationships.
  • Good problemsolving skills, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently.
