Position Information:

Thirlmere Public School has served its semi-rural community since 1888, with a current enrolment of around 380 students.

The school is well-resourced and strongly supported by committed and hard-working P&C Association members who provide ongoing support both financially and physically.

The school has 29 students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The school strives to ensure all children reach their potential through the provision of an engaging and challenging curriculum.

A dedicated and committed staff continually strives to improve pedagogy and practice through engagement with continuous professional learning and mentoring.

This supports students to achieve their best both academically and socially/emotionally.


The school's strategic directions over the next four years include Growth and Attainment, Wellbeing and Engagement, and Quality Teaching and Learning.

Students requiring additional support are well catered for with a chaplain, counsellor, learning and support teaching team, school learning support officers, external interventionists and through strategies and adjustments within the context of the classroom.

Students are provided opportunity to engage in a variety of leadership opportunities in Year 6 and a Student Representative Council meets regularly to bring student voice to school decision making.

There is a strong extracurricular program, with involvement in a wide variety of sports including PSSA events. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are supported to learn about and celebrate their culture. Thirlmere Public School is committed to building a culture that supports life-long learning.

  • Highly visible educational leader with a proven ability to drive a culture of continuous improvement underpinned by targeted professional learning and collaborative practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and enhance authentic relationships with staff, students, families, and the broader community in order to maintain a respectful and positive learning environment.
  • Proven ability to inspire teams to work collaboratively on initiatives and activities to aid the successful implementation of school and system targets.
  • Demonstrated capacity to strengthen Aboriginal Education programs and to work in partnerships with Aboriginal students and families.

General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
