About the position
***The Embedded Youth Outreach Project (EYOP) is a program which pairs a police officer with a youth worker to provide an after-hours secondary response to young people coming into contact with police. The pair respond to police interactions with young people in metropolitan sites and engage with young people in the field or at a police station to assess their needs and provide initial support and referral. Operational safety measures will be in place to ensure that the risk of harm to youth workers is minimised. The program operates seven days a week outside of business hours, reflecting the time of day during which police most commonly encounter at-risk young people. The position includes providing support during business hours to make and follow up on referrals that were initiated by the after-hours response.

Some of your key responsibilities will be:

  • Undertake operational field activities in conjunction with Victoria Police to provide a secondary response to support at-risk young people coming into contact with Police.
  • Engage with at-risk young people in the field or at the police station to assess their needs and provide initial engagement, support, and referral.
  • Provide follow-up support, referral, and linkages with young people connected with the project during normal business hours
  • Participate in other project governance activities such as routine project review meetings, project evaluation activities, and other activities as determined by the EYOP Team Leader and or YSS North West Crime Prevention Manager
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and develop options for implementing a partnership approach to the provision of service delivery.
  • Plan, develop and establish brief intervention pathways for young people in the local community who are connected to the EYOP in order to meet project objectives.

Please note:

  • Service delivery aspects of the role may be modified in order to comply with Victorian Government COVID19 guidelines.
  • As part of our Employment screening process, you will be required to undertake a National Criminal History check and have a current Working with Children Check.
