About You

  • You have high level interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in working in collaboration and partnership with multiple agencies in order to deliver holistic care.
  • You have minimum Tertiary Qualifications in Health, Counselling, Community Welfare, Social Work or work experience deemed relevant by the employer. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture, and the social and emotional issues experienced by Aboriginal people.
  • You are of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander descent (Section 14D of the Anti-Discrimination Act).

What you'll be doing


The position sits within the Central Coast Mental Health Service (CCMHS) and plays a key role in the delivery of services provided by the Aboriginal Mental Health Team (AMHT).

This position is responsible for providing cultural consultation to consumers of CCLHD mental health services. This includes consumers who are both inpatients and living in the community.

The AMHT provides support to CCLHD mental health clinicians to assist in ensuring the services that are provided are responsive to the social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal people.

This includes providing input and advice to clinical staff regarding the impact of trauma and colonisation including the loss of connection to culture, identity, community or family.

Working from a Social and Emotional Wellbeing framework, this role will support engagement with cultural, family and kinship groups, provide advocacy for the needs of Aboriginal consumers, while working across clinical teams.
