The world's most Instagrammed cake wants someone manage its brand - Black Star Pastry.

Black Star Pastry are the makers of the iconic and insta-famous Strawberry Watermelon Cake.

With stores in Sydney and Melbourne and with a global cult following, we are on a mission to celebrate friendship and sweeten moments shared when people come together over our cakes.

This role needs someone who loves food, loves cake and loves brand management.

With unfaltering attention to detail, we need a first class marketing execution expert who knows how to deliver a campaign, a project and a great idea.


Rallying the other Black Star Pastry stars, we are looking for an exceptional team player, someone who loves to collaborate and can thrive in a dynamic and fast-moving hospitality environment.


We are looking for a brand custodian to nurture and protect our brand equity, at the same time propel our business forward with innovative campaigns and engaging marketing initiatives, delivered on time, in full and within budget.

You will play a pivotal role executing engaging marketing initiatives that showcase our product innovation, mastery and brand personality.

Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role will also work closely with our Group Head Pastry Chef and his team, the General Manager and Black Star Pastry's Creative Director.

This role will lead the execution of our brand strategy, have responsibility for the annual marketing plan and ensure that all campaigns and brand moments deliver on business objectives.


With an aim to increase brand and product awareness, this role is accountable for driving consumer conversions (instore and online), generating sales and nurturing and growing our community of Black Star Pastry brand fans alongside the broader marketing team.


You are highly collaborative with exceptional attention to detail and demonstrate creative flair when it comes to finding innovative solutions to business objectives.

You will be an excellent communicator and quickly build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, and you love to share your successes and that of the team with regular reporting on the results, the brand growth and sentiment, and provide leading insights to learn from.


The key accountabilities:

  • Take ownership of Black Star Pastry's marketing plan, executing with excellence from end to end you will be the ultimate brand custodian
  • With a passion for storytelling, inject innovation and fun into all that you do, unleashing Black Star Pastry's brand personality
  • Lead campaign development working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and the Creative Director, and deliver all of the elements to perfection
  • Curate Black Star Pastry socials across all platforms, working closely with content creators and suppliers to tell our leading stories innovation, mastery, brand tales
  • Consistently use analytics to make strategic, data driven recommendations
  • Lead and project manage the production of all marketing collateral
  • Lead the internal communication of marketing activities and initiatives to keep all stakeholders informed and up to date
  • Identify opportunities for customer acquisition and growth with wellconsidered executional plans
  • Complementing our own marketing campaigns, identify meaningful brand partners and content collaborators to extend our reach and brand affiliation
  • Effectively and accurately manage the Black Star Pastry marketing budget, reconciling monthly expenditure against expected activity

What will make you a star

  • 4+ years' experience in brand management
  • Impressive track record of delivering business objectives through the translation of brand strategy into campaigns, delivered with seamless execution
  • Have a passion for all things hospitality and food, and a sweet spot for cakes and pastries
  • Have excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Proficient in Adobe suite, canva or similar, as well as MS Office
  • Possess an analytical approach to strategy and experience with analytics tools
  • Ability to create engaging brand campaigns and collaborations which deliver tangible benefits across the business
  • Be a strong, fun storyteller with a passion for the brand, the cakes, and our characters
  • Combine creativity, practical nous and marketing prowess to turn ideas into actions and question marks into opportunities
  • Have a keen eye for design and zero tolerance for grammatical faux pas
  • Have a creative and collaborative mindset and a genuine hunger to push the business (and yourself) forward
  • Have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
