The role The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Environmental Health Program (ATSIEHP).

The role is based at 15 Butterfield Street Herston, Brisbane.

You will act as a key Program contact, work with multiple Program stakeholders, and lead the ongoing development of the Departments' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Environmental Health Plan and strategic priorities of the Program.

Your duties will include supporting the development of place-based and co-designed Environmental Health Plans for the Indigenous local governments included in the Program and delivery of the ATSIEHP review outcomes.

The position will also be required to support the wider program responsibilities of the Unit.

The successful personYou will have the ability to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including a capacity to effectively and sensitively consult and negotiate in accordance with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices.

You will also have demonstrated knowledge of the First Nations health reform agenda and extensive experience in project management including the ability to independently lead project activities, proactively and effectively engage with stakeholders and deliver quality outcomes within constrained timeframes.

This role would suit applicants that are highly motivated and who have a demonstrated flexibility in their approach to work and working environment.

This includes a willingness to operate in a collegiate and respectful fashion, and participate in cross program and departmental initiatives to address critical issues as required by management.

Mandatory and other requirements

  • This role is a designated Indigenous role. Those of Aboriginal and/or Torres Islander descent are encouraged to apply.
  • The role requires minimum nontertiary qualifications such as a Diploma, Certificate level training, or nonGraduate University coursework, etc., in a relevant area as well as at least 510 years' experience in a relevant project management area.
  • Graduate or postgraduate study in relevant field will be considered favourably.
  • Participate in the unit's oncall arrangements and after hours work as required for the effective management of incidents and other health protection issues of concern requiring a rapid response. There may be peak periods of work during which taking of leave may be restricted.
