About the role
Provide vital help to all creatures great and small by caring for and attending to all animals in the care of RSPCA Qld Gympie Shelter by performing a wide range of duties using best practice in animal husbandry.
- Working alongside a team of staff and volunteers to ensure animal welfare is a top priority.
- Providing exceptional levels of care to animals including general husbandry, dietary requirements and enrichment.
- Assisting in animal health examinations and administering routine veterinary preventative treatments and medications.
- Ensuring high standards of shelter cleanliness/hygiene.
- Providing training and behaviour modification for animals in care using positive, rewardbased techniques.
- The ongoing communication of animal health, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Strict adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Coordination and training of volunteers and participating in peer mentoring.
- Collaborating with and working closely with other departments at RSPCA and external agencies to ensure the needs of the animal are met.
- Assisting in the animal adoption process.
- Assisting in admission, care and reclaim of domestic animals straying in the community on behalf of the Gympie Regional Council.
- Ensuring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail is employed when updating individual animal shelter records and communicating with other departments and agencies and.
- Ensuring customers comply with Local Council By-Laws.
- Our Animal Attendants primarily work with our domestic animals, including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets.
Who are we looking for? - Certificate II or III in animalrelated studies would be an advantage.
- Experience in animal husbandry and animal handling; verbally and visually identifying and describing animals body language.
- A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to achieving the longterm goals of the RSPCA Qld.
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and the ability to cope in high pressure situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good conflict resolution skills.
- Minimum age 18 years old.
Working hours will be rostered across a 7-day roster and weekend work will be required. Remuneration is as per the RSPCA Qld Enterprise Agreement for Shelter Staff - Level 1, with a starting pay rate of $23.23 per hour (junior rates may apply).
