The opportunity:


An opportunity exists for a highly motivated Research Officer (postdoctoral researcher) to join the Stem Cell Ethics & Policy Group at MCRI.

In this three-year full-time position, the Research Officer will focus on exploring the issues facing patient communities, researchers, and other stakeholders in the translation of stem cell research towards clinical trial evaluation and commercialisation.

Understanding what stakeholders know, or want to know, about stem cell medicine, including how they view participation now or in the future, will play a crucial role in informing how our targeted research programs are structured and implemented.

You will also be part of reNEW, the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Stem Cell Medicine, with nodes at University of Copenhagen (in Denmark), Leiden University Medical Center (in the Netherlands) and MCRI.


Your responsibilities include:

Undertaking interdisciplinary discovery research concerning how key community and professional stakeholders across diverse patient communities view stem cell medicine and its development
Undertaking discovery research to further explore ethical considerations raised by stakeholders and/or researchers leading the development of new stem cell-based interventions
Contributing to education and engagement strategies for health professionals, patients and lay publics to address therapeutic misconceptions in stem cell medicine
Working to attract external competitive funding and has a record of high-quality publications, research impact and peer recognition


About you:

PhD in sociology, science and technology studies, history and philosophy of science or a relevant discipline
Demonstrated experience in managing qualitative research projects and high-level skills in qualitative methods including data collection, coding, analysis and contribution to high quality research publications in the field of sociology, science and technology studies or history and philosophy of science or a relevant discipline
Experience in engaging with patients and others with lived experience of illness
Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary scholarship including working productively with researchers of different domains of expertise including biomedical research, and with clinicians, and patient advocacy groups
