About the role:

- coordinating whole of department engagement forums and activities, ensuring they align with the department's strategic objectives. This includes the programming, planning and execution of an annual Health Sector Summit.
- managing the Secretariat for a range of high level stakeholder forums.
- coordinating regular strategic stakeholder communications to health services and the sector more broadly, ensuring they align with the department's strategic narrative and key messages for different audiences.
- managing the department's stakeholder relationship management approach and providing strategic advice to divisions and the broader Executive Board to inform departmental stakeholder and reputation risk management.
- establishing key foundations for successful engagement including a CRM system, an Engagement Framework, tools and templates and stakeholder measurement and monitoring.


Key to the success of the role is the ability to drive best practice approaches in engagement forums and stakeholder communication channels that enable strong and mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships between the Department and its diverse stakeholders and communities.

How you'll make a difference:


The Head of Sector Engagement is a strategic role within the Engagement team of the Department's Communications and Engagement Branch.

The role is central to assisting the department ensure high quality health sector engagement and coordination of strategic communications with stakeholders.

The role is a senior position and expected to represent the Branch to senior stakeholders and be involved in strategic decision making on projects.

It is responsible for leading a small team.


Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • A tertiary qualification relevant to stakeholder engagement or communications would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant government landscape and experience in a senior communications or engagement role would be expected ideally in a government department or similar highprofile organisation.
  • Technical expertise in the following would be beneficial:
  • IAP2 training or certification.
  • Understanding of Victoria's health system stakeholders.
  • Experience in working with CRMs.
  • Experience in establishing the foundations of best practice engagement.
