    About the Community Safety Building Authority


The Corporate Services and Infrastructure group oversees and leads the key public accountability requirements of the department including finance, procurement, evidence and insights, performance reporting and risk, audit and integrity.

The group also manages the governance and delivery of major infrastructure through the Community Safety Building Authority (CSBA).


The CSBA was established in June 2019 and designs, procures, builds and upgrades the infrastructure needed to keep communities safe.

It provides end-to-end project development, management and delivery of Victoria's new prisons, youth justice centres, court and custody facilities, emergency services facilities and public safety features, such as pedestrian walkway bollards and CCTV networks.

As well as delivering new infrastructure CSBA modernises, expands and upgrades existing facilities


The CSBA has a highly skilled workforce of experienced professionals from across the public and private sectors that support the development, procurement and delivery oversight of major capital projects.

The CSBA team includes specialists in community safety infrastructure, project management, engineering, cost management, commercial management, planning, environment and design.


The role of the Adviser - Planning & Approvals provides statutory planning services and timely, accurate advice to facilitate the delivery of the department's capital works program and management of departmental land and built assets.


About the Role


The role is a technical and professional position requiring applied experience and knowledge of land use planning in Victoria within a regional and metropolitan context.

The Adviser - Planning and Approvals must be able to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including planning authorities to resolve complex planning issues.


You will also:

  • Provide statutory (town) planning services to facilitate the delivery of the department's capital works program and the management of departmental land and built assets.
  • Provide professional, accurate and timely advice on planning matters, including risks, opportunities, and solutions to resolve complex statutory (town) planning issues.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate and persuade others.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of departmental policies, strategies and processes, and maintain functional records for use across the department.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of multidisciplinary specialist matter experts and be an active member of the wider business unit and the department.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of metropolitan and regional statutory (town) planning in Victoria, preferably within a Local or State Government environment.
  • Applied experience and knowledge of the statutory (town) planning process for the delivery of government funded capital works and infrastructure projects.
  • Developed communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to identify and implement pragmatic solutions.
