Program Manager, Closure

About the role
The Program Manager reports to the Global Head of Closure and will drive two key aspects of the RTC team's deliverables:

  • Establishment of business processes including:
  • Collaboration across Rio Tinto internal stakeholders
  • Design and monitor the internal and engagement plan
  • Interface between RTC and Corporate Relations with a focus on communications
  • Coordination of the RTC Annual plan and monthly reporting
  • Internal KPI tracking for RTC
  • Coordinating the delivery and tracking of the following five improvement pillars:

  • Engagement: Proactive and timely internal and external stakeholder closure engagement nurturing trusting relationships of stakeholder values and expectations

Portfolio Management: Deep understanding of the asset portfolio, including research and development needs, strategic outcomes, cost and risk, supporting data-driven decision making and encouraging synergy for the business

People: A capable, engaged and agile team, supported by strong leaders, enabling technologies, technical expertise and thought leadership

Commercial Excellence: Pioneering partnerships and financial structure to deliver disruptive innovation and approaches to minimize costs and maximize revenue

Delivery Excellence: Assure and optimize closure planning and execution with fit for purpose systems and standardized processes to build intellectual property and value


What you'll bring
A combination of skills and experience will be considered if you have:

  • Experience in designing and implementing business tools and practices in line with KPIs
  • Business improvement experience
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering complex programs/projects
  • Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Divergent thinking with an ability to challenge the status quo

Rio Tinto Closure (RTC) is the business that safely transforms Rio Tinto's end of life mining, processing and infrastructure assets by developing innovative and sustainable solutions to leave a positive closure legacy.

We collaborate with all parts of Rio Tinto to focus on maximizing post operational opportunities, de-risking and reducing the scale of closure liabilities and executing existing and near term closures at optimal cost.
