About Office for Women and Violence Prevention

The Office for Women and Violence Prevention supports women and girls to participate fully in the social, economic and cultural opportunities that Queensland offers; and to achieve their full potential.

We deliver services and supports that victims and their children need to be free of violence, and that ensure perpetrators are held to account for their actions and given opportunity to change their behaviour.

We also drive reform to strengthen community and whole of government responses to gendered violence by changing community attitudes and behaviours, integrating service responses and strengthening justice system responses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare high level strategic analysis and advice to assist the Director, Executive Director and Assistant Director-General to advise the Minister, Director-General, and senior management.
  • Lead the development of strategic policy submissions, Cabinet submissions, Cabinet Budget Review Committee submissions and evaluation frameworks to enable Government to deliver the Taskforce reform program.
  • Research and advise on contemporary policy and legislative frameworks, based on evidence and best practice locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Develop and maintain productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders to provide advice and support successful negotiation on strategic policy matters to develop effective policy and service system responses and represent the unit on committees and working groups.
  • Manage the Taskforce work program, consistent with Government commitments and directions set by the Minister and Director-General, meeting all deadlines and performance requirements, within budget while building the capacity of team members.
  • Support the Director, Executive Director, and Assistant Director-General to represent the department in intergovernmental forums and negotiations, undertake policy analysis specific to budget and policy initiatives at both Commonwealth and State levels.
