How will I help?


We have an immediate opportunity for a Product Owner with seasoned product ownership skills, a strong delivery background and experience in helping teams and organisations transition to an Agile environment.

The Product Owner will be required to work in an Agile team to support the development of a high-value, high-quality product within the Westpac Agile Execution Framework, enabling the division to achieve its planned business outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Support the Product Manager, by executing on the overall product strategy to the extent that the product you own contributes to it. In instances where the Product Manager role does not exist, the Product Owner will represent the voice of the customer.
  • Manage the product's stakeholders balancing both customers and business needs and able to translate them into features
  • Refines and clarifies the benefits as understanding increases through product delivery, effectively driving business case realisation
  • Understand the market that the product competes in and ensure that the product maintains a competitive advantage
  • Understand the Divisional and Group objectives and strategies
  • Ensure that the product adheres to business controls and meets legal and compliance requirements
  • Maximise the value of the product, to the customer and to the division
  • Understand value from the customers viewpoint (what problem does the product solve for the customer in the context of their lifestyle and financial needs), championing a Customer Centred Design approach
  • Provide analytics and anecdotes to the development team so that they understand the customers behaviour and mindset
  • Maintain a vision for the product and communicate it to the stakeholders and the development team
  • Ensure that it aligns with the overall product strategy
  • Ensure that valuable releases are delivered as often as possible, allowing teams to learn early and iterate on the product to ensure it really meets customer's needs
  • Manage the product backlog
  • Remove and add items to it (features and user stories) and ensure that they are clearly expressed (including acceptance criteria), refining them when necessary
  • Collaborate with the development team in refining the product backlog items and estimating them
  • Regularly refine the product backlog, ensuring it is prioritised with a greater focus on the highest priority items
  • Use it as a basis for a product roadmap and release plan
  • Ensure that it is always visible to the stakeholders and the development team
  • Support the development team
  • Ensure that they understand the product vision and roadmap
  • Ensure that the product backlog items delivered are of the expected quality

What do I need?

  • Business and/or technology tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience (required)
  • Product Owner (advantage)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
  • Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)
  • Scaled Agile (advantage)
  • SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner (SPMPO)
  • 5+ years' experience in the financial services industry
  • 3+ years' experience working in a large and complex organisation and working with senior stakeholders and understanding their viewpoints
  • 1+ years' experience in an Agile environment, working as a Product Owner
