You will be challenged to stay on top of a wide scope of rapidly evolving issues, conducting longer-term analysis of questions relating to your area of international expertise, and linking this to the policy context in Australia.

You will also monitor developments and prepare briefing material, including papers for the senior executive and Reserve Bank Board and will also contribute to the Bank's Statement on Monetary Policy, helping to prepare speeches, and publishing analysis in the Reserve Bank Bulletin.


Your responsibilities

  • Undertake and use analysis and research in support of the Bank's central banking functions and objectives.
  • This would include monitoring, interpreting and exploring relevant data, news, research, documentation and/or other types of information.
  • Use appropriate methods (e.g. written, verbal, visual, etc.) to effectively communicate analysis and research to relevant internal and external decisionmakers, stakeholders and other audiences in support of the Bank's functions and objectives.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of recommendations, guidelines, standards, policies, procedures or operations to support the Bank's functions and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to support and enhance analysis.
  • Develop, maintain and extend sources of information to support and enhance analysis.

Your background

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret a broad range of data sources, publications, and other relevant information sources, as input into and context for analytical work.
  • A good understanding of the Bank's purpose, functions and objectives and how they relate to the Australian economy and financial system.
  • Experience in convincingly and credibly communicating orally and in writing economics/financebased analysis, information and assessments, communicating with a high degree of clarity and efficiency.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is essential.
  • An honours or postgraduate degree in economics, finance or a related discipline

Your team

International Department is responsible for the Reserve Bank's foreign exchange operations, the investment of international reserve holdings of gold and foreign exchange, and the provision of regular advice on developments in international financial markets to the Governors and the Board.

The Department is also responsible for maintaining the Reserve Bank's relations with major international institutions.
