  • Appointment type: Full time, continuing (permanent)
  • Total Remuneration Package: From $115,030 $127,995 (HEW Level 8), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
  • 35 hour working week with opportunities for flexible working arrangements

THE ROLE
The Role


This newly created role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced people manager Laboratory Manager to oversee the delivery of high quality lab services for Phase 1 to IV clinical trials.

The successful applicant will oversee clinical lab operations and service delivery and lead a high performing team of Clinical Trial Associates to process biological samples and ensure industry best practice in the accurate and complete collection of clinical trial data points associated with these.

Reporting to the Head of the Clinical Trial Unit, the Laboratory Manager will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to strategic planning, team culture and CTU leadership
  • Provide technical leadership in the management and operation of laboratory facilities and associated equipment
  • Providing clinical trial implementation support through ensuring the optimal handling of clinical trial samples and maintenance of clinical trial equipment
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders and sponsors to ensure that deliverables are met
  • Develop, lead and manage a high performing team of CTAs.
About You

You will be a proactive, caring and supportive manager with the ability to inspire, mentor and develop a team.

You will have extensive laboratory skills and knowledge and experience of clinical trials, which can be applied to multiple therapeutic areas.


You will be able to effectively collaborate with and influence investigators, nurses and other professionals both within the clinical trials team and externally to support your team to achieve trial objectives in a fast-paced setting.

About Us

The

Clinical Trials Unit (CTU)

is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) at Macquarie University.

FMHHS also has the Macquarie Medical School, the Macquarie University Private Hospital, and runs patient clinics, labs, imaging and a pharmacy all on campus in close proximity to support clinical trials, and support providing patients with access to state of the art treatments.

The CTU undertakes sponsored and investigator initiated Phase I to IV trials across multiple therapeutic areas with multiple Principal Investigators.

Our current team of over 60 staff (managing over 120 trials) are a close knit inclusive team with a supportive culture that values team work and innovation.

To Apply- Degree in life sciences, health, or equivalent experience coupled with experience working in a clinical trials environment and providing technical leadership for a clinical trials facility- Track record of developing team members and fostering a positive culture which motivates individuals and teams to deliver high quality services and perform at their best- Superior computer skills including MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint and data analysis- Consultation and collaboration skills including the demonstrated ability to develop relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders- Experience in and sound working knowledge of Health and Safety in clinical laboratories (including PC2 labs) coupled with fostering a safe work environment (knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements for clinical trials and a Good Clinical Practice Certificate are considered highly desirable)
