About the Role
The Turf Management Specialist Officer is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of golf course maintenance and programs.

The officer is also responsible for efficient and effective maintenance and improvement of sports grounds, turf wickets, parks and open space within the City of Darebin.


The position provides turf management expertise, knowledge, leadership and capacity to support delivery of the Council plan through contributing to the shaping and implementation of the operational needs necessary to achieve Council's vision.

This position will be a key conduit between the community and operational delivery of parks services by providing agile, fast and effective responses to customer requests.


This role has responsibility for premier and community sports grounds, golf courses and other turf areas, and assists in delivering Council objectives in a way that harnesses the cooperation of staff to drive service improvements constructively and foster a performance and safety-oriented culture.


The role has a strong commitment to partnering with traditional owners, community and stakeholders to enable the sustainability of the environment and urgency around addressing climate emergency and social justice.


This position will be initially located at the Reservoir Operations Centre but depending on the work requirements, the incumbent may be required to change their starting and finishing locations within the municipality.


  • Provide turf management expertise, knowledge, leadership and create a positive workplace culture. Ensure team works in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with Councils Occupational Health and Safety policies and legislative requirements
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and collaborate with other team leaders, staff, contractors and stakeholders. Communicate with key stakeholders to facilitate and support delivery of highquality sports turf surfaces
  • Operate sports ground, golf course and park maintenance equipment and carry out general sportsground maintenance duties
  • Deliver departmental priorities and build an inclusive workforce that drives Darebin's values and enables strategic change
  • Ensure team works in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with Councils Occupational Health and Safety policies and legislative requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of park and open space turf management techniques including managing golf courses, sports grounds and curating turf wickets
  • A tertiary qualification in Sports Turf Management (Certificate III minimum) and/or relevant industry experience
  • Highly developed problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience providing exemplary customer service to residents and dealing professionally with complaints
