Melbourne-based

The Victorian Government is bringing back the State Electricity Commission (SEC) with an initial investment of $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of clean power to help drive transformation of Victoria's energy sector.

The new SEC will push more renewable energy into the system, drive down emissions, put downward pressure on power prices and create thousands of jobs.

Through targeted investments, the government-owned SEC will accelerate the delivery of renewable energy to help secure Victoria's clean energy future.

The SEC will do this by:

  • Being an active energy market participant, working with industry to invest in and speed up the delivery of renewable energy under a 10-year plan.
  • Pushing more energy into the system with the aim of reducing wholesale prices and giving consumers greater choice.
  • Working with industry to create thousands of jobs in renewable energy in solar, wind, storage and emerging energy solutions.
  • Investing in training, skills, and generating the clean energy workforce of the future.

The newly established SEC Implementation Office is a growing team within the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) that is responsible for leading the reestablishment of the SEC as a government-owned renewable energy provider.

About the Department

DEECA employs more than 4,800 staff in 91 locations across the state and is a key manager of Victoria's public estate, challenged to improve Victoria's liveability whilst protecting the natural environment, infrastructure, and heritage for future generations.
