    Your role


The Office of the NSW Legal Services Commissioner (OLSC) is an independent statutory office that deals with complaints about lawyers.


The Public Liaison Officer provides support to members of the pubic by enabling people with special needs to make a complaint in writing to the OLSC.

This part-time role is currently performed from home using a DCJ laptop to make the necessary telephone calls. Occasional attendance at the OLSC CBD office may be required at the Commissioner's discretion.


What you'll do

  • Assisting a diverse range of complainants (ATSI, NESB, persons with a disability, seniors, offenders or logístically isolated people with no support) by ensuring they are aware of the complaint handling process; modifying services to meet their individual needs and supporting the accurate drafting and completion of their complaint/s to the OLSC.
  • Conducting telephone interviews with complainants, their support persons, or interpreters, to enable completion of complaint documentation or to explain the complaint process.
  • Preparation and sending of draft complaints and information on relevant support services that may be available to complainants.
  • Maintenance of a current register of appointments to accurately track incoming and completed interview appointments.
  • Entry of file data in the Complaints Management System ('CMS') and Microsoft SharePoint the Office's computerised file tracking system.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in dealing with people with special needs and nonEnglish speaking backgrounds.
  • High level of telephone skill and experience.

Essential requirements

  • Experience providing clerical and administrative support, preferably in a complaint handling organisation, Government department, statutory body, or law practice.
  • Experience in dealing with clients who may have special needs.
  • Experience in dealing with agitated and/or frustrated clients.
