About the position:

***Wollongong City Council is seeking a knowledgeable and analytical Environmental Planning Manager to lead a vibrant team of professional staff to address the community's desire for climate action and a healthy natural environment.

You will provide leadership and support to a team of talented and highly motivated environmental strategy professionals. Together you will work with government and the community to plan for the net-zero emission targets set by Council.


The team is also responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on policies and strategies to improve Council's environmental planning assessments, natural asset management and community resilience.

You will provide high-level analysis, advice and technical direction on key legislative and policy matters.


The Environmental Planning Manager will advocate for the sustainable and appropriate use of the region's natural areas including the escarpment and coastal assets.

You will be responsible for ensuring the environmental strategies, plans and policies provide effective input and direction to Council's capital infrastructure program, operational budget priorities and provision of services.

You will also provide professional advice to external and internal customers as part of an effective team with a strong customer-service focus.

Your leadership, technical skills, extensive knowledge and diverse range of experience will enable you to succeed in this role.

  • Relevant degree qualification with extensive experience relevant to the position.
  • Outline your experience to lead employees and engage in ongoing improvement activities and professional development.
  • Provide an example of your ability to think strategically, critically, logically and innovatively to deliver strategic outcomes and organisational priorities.
  • Detail your high level project management skills and your ability to manage multiple projects to meet strict deadlines, budgets and deliver identified outcomes.
  • Tell us about your extensive experience in the design, implementation and reporting of environmental
  • Outline your extensive experience in stakeholder and interest group engagement relevant to environmental policy and strategy development and implementation.
  • Describe your extensive experience in coordination of program / project delivery by multiple organisational teams and stakeholders.
  • Current Class C driver's licence.
