About the role


The NITV Indigenous News and Current Affairs team (INACA) is looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic media librarian to manage the flow of original material through the newsroom.


The INACA librarian will support daily news broadcasts, online content creation and current affairs programs to bring Indigenous stories and perspectives to a wider Australian audience.

A passion for Indigenous Australia and broader knowledge of news and current affairs is essential.

The Role


We need someone with experience in information management, data entry and database systems to work alongside journalists, producers, editors and fellow media managers in the heart of the broader SBS newsroom.


  • Efficiently handle journalist requests for footage to achieve the best outcome in terms of available vision and retrieval time.
  • Template and shortlist News bulletins, current affairs programs and raw footage accurately recording all relevant information with particular attention to the names and correct titles of world leaders, politicians and key figures featured in the news. Keep diary updated accordingly.
  • Confidently navigate the nonlinear system to find and to archive clips, adding the appropriate metadata.
  • Liaise effectively with NITV News journalists and Production staff.
  • Give support to initiatives proposed within NITV News and develop own ideas for the benefit of NITV News.
  • Communicate with Production staff and EP to prioritise workloads.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of national and international news and Indigenous affairs.

About you

  • Experience in database management and a keen eye for detail in data entry with experience in a News Library or similar environment highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical and research skills particularly database and Internetbased research.
  • Sound knowledge of local and international News and Indigenous Affairs.
  • Welldeveloped oral and written communication skills including the ability to liaise effectively with journalists and team members.
  • A sound knowledge of Indigenous Affairs, culture and issues as well as correct protocols when dealing with Indigenous communities and individual communities.
